The city of Berkeley and San Francisco declared August 8 as Annual Burma Day in 2008 to mark  the 20th anniversary of 1988 people's uprising, to honor the people of Burma in their struggle for democracy and freedom. That is the day -- famously known as 8888 -- the people of Burma took to the street in 1988 to demand democracy and freedom, but met with brutal crack down by the military regime. In marking the Burma Day, the City of Berkeley annually raises Burma flags at the City Hall. This year again the city will be raising the Burma flags on the August 8 morning to mark the Burma Day on the 23nd anniversary of 8888.

Two Burma flags (A pre-dictatorship Union of Burma flag and a Student Fighting-Peacock flag) will be raised at 8:08 am at the front and back of the Berkeley city hall. Please join in to show your solidarity and support to the City in honoring the people of Burma including their beloved leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi,  NLD, students and all the activists and all political prisoners in Burma. The country and the people have been continuously oppressed under the world's most brutal dictatorship for nearly five decades now. Please join in to support!!!
