Minutes of the BADA Annual General Meeting and Elections - 2009

BADA Annual General Meeting and Elections successfully completed;
New Board, EC and officers have been elected.


The Burmese American Democratic Alliance (BADA) held its Annual General Meeting and Election – 2009 on Saturday, Jan 17, 2009 at the Union City Public Library located at 34007 Alvarado Niles Rd in Union City, CA 94587 from 1 pm to 5 pm. More than fifty members and supporters attended the annual meeting that elected the new Board of Directors and the Executive Committee (EC) to lead the organization for the next two years. 

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Aung Khin, U Kun Pe, U Victor Win, U Htun Myat Oo,  U Toe Lwin and U Ko Ko Lay.  After the opening speeches from the chair persons, the EC presented its financial report and the progress report to the meeting. The members asked the questions and clarifications. The meeting also reviewed the existing bylaw and recommended - by an open voting - to replace one of the two vice president positions in the EC with an associate treasurer position in order to better conduct the organization' s business. 

The meeting then formed the election committee that consisted of U Kyaw Naing, Daw Yin Yin Aung, Gregg Butensky, Rick Heizman, U Ko Ko Lay, U Htun Myat Oo and U Toe Lwin. The election committee then announced the voting process and election rules as well as the dismissal of the existing Board and EC. It also announced the list of the nominees to the Board and EC for 2009/2010 term. The ballots were distributed to the members who then conducted the secret voting to elect the new Board and EC.  After counting the ballots and recording the results, the election committee announced the results to the meeting:

The meeting also stated that election committee member Gregg Butensky will keep the complete set of ballots and tallies and that in the event that a position on the Board or EC becomes vacant that position will be offered to the next highest vote getter.

After the election, the election committee was dissolved and the meeting was adjourned.

The newly elected Board and EC then hold their first meetings on Saturday January 31, 2009 at the Fremont Public Library located at 2400 Stevenson Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538 from 1 pm to 4 pm to elect the chair person of the Board and the officers of the EC.

2009 Annual General Meeting and Elections Invitation

Dear All,

BADA is an all volunteer-based grassroots, non-profit organization founded on Jan 7, 2001. Since its founding, the organization has been advocating democracy and freedom for the people of Burma and the betterment of the local communities. It has been solely supported by the members and the supporters. As you may be aware, it has constantly worked with many of you – Burma freedom supporters, various community groups and organizations in realizing numerous campaigns, actions and events to help the people of Burma.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held annually in January while its Board of Directors and the Executive Committee are elected by the members at the AGM every two years. We believe that building the strong and effective grassroots organization is important and necessary in effectively assisting the people of Burma in their long struggle for freedom. To that end, please help us by joining the organization as well as attending its upcoming AGM and the Elections on January 17, 2009.
