Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the imprisoned Nobel Peace Laureate and 2008 Congressional Gold Medal recipient is one of the world's most renowned freedom fighters and advocates of nonviolence.

She serves as the symbol of Burma﹊s struggle for democracy and inspires hope in a downtrodden country that was just recently devastated by Cyclone Nargis.

More than 100,000 people were killed and 1.5 million became homeless when the cyclone Nargis struck, and the military regime's refusal of relief efforts from the international community has created the worst humanitarian crisis in the history of Burma .
Let's celebrate the courage and determination Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all the brave women of Burma on Women of BURMA Day while they are facing long and difficult challenges in Burma. We will also pray for and celebrate the people of Burma , especially the victims of Cyclone Nargis.
