Burma Vigil at the Pelosi Office to ask her Support for Sanctions on Burma's Ruling Thugs

What: Burma freedom supporters and the district constituents to show their appreciation to Congresswoman Pelosi for her past work on Burma and her continual support for Burma. In particular, we would like to ask for her much needed leadership and support to the Burma bill introduced in the House by the Congressman Lantos, Block Burmese JADE (Junta's Anti-Democratic Efforts) Act of 2007. This is powerful legislation that will really hurt the SPDC hard. But it has gotten only 27 co-sponsors so far and needs to go through the way and means committee soon.

When: Wednesday, Nov 14, 2007 4:30 - 5:30 pm at the San Francisco Federal Building, her office location, at 450 Golden Gate Ave, San Francisco, CA 94102.

How to get there:
The closet BART station to SF Federal Building is Civic Center BART station.

Why:
Congresswoman Pelosi has been so busy with other matters and could not pay much needed attention and leadership to Burma bills even though she is a strong Burma supporter. We would like her to know about it and can take measures to ensure it goes through Ways and Means committee."

Moreover, below is the letter drafted for you to kindly mail, fax or email it to her office.  Your help will make a difference in Burma.

Dear Congresswoman Pelosi,

I am grateful for the continued support you have shown for the people of Burma.  You have shown strong leadership in making sure that essential legislation gets passed, such as the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act 2003. I ask you to continue your support and to ensure that the Block Burmese JADE Act of 2007 gets passed in the House of Representatives. These sanctions are key to furthering pressure on the generals who rule Burma illegitimately.

[then include something about your experience with Burma, your background on it, your thoughts ,etc]

[then just say how long you have lived in the San Francisco area, and mention how much support for the cause of Burma there is in this area]
